The appointment of Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu into the federal cabinet as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs has continued to elicit positive reactions from groups and individuals even across the shores of Nigeria.

The latest commendation came from a group of ex-servicemen in the United States of America under the umbrella of the American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID).

In a letter dated November 14, 2024, signed by its President, Chief Sylvester Onyia and the Secretary, Dr Godson Obiagwu, AVID expressed its delight at Ojukwu’s appointment and the portfolio assigned to her, adding that she was well prepared for her new role in government.

“We write to extend our warmest congratulations to you on your recent appointment as the Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs!

“Your impressive background in law, diplomacy and beauty pageants has prepared you well for this prestigious role,” the group said.

The Veterans noted that the Minister was well grounded in “the landscape of Nigerian leadership” and therefore expressed optimism that “the challenges of your new position would be scalable and your performance would rank to unprecedented level”.

The letter of congratulations reads in part: “We salute your courage and leadership acumen that rightly places you into
this deserving position.

“As a determined Igbo daughter and the wife of the people’s General, the late Ikemba Nnewi, General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, we have confidence in the content of your character, and believe you would make excellent decisions.

“As you transition into your new position, we believe that as a transactional and transformational leader, you will influence some of the key issues bedeviling the nation.

“As a tenacious and resilient lady, we buy into your positive outlook on current events, AVID stands ready for counsel anytime you need our advice or review of any subject matter.

“We wish you the best. May God always protect you and endue you with wisdom to navigate through your daily assignments”.
