…Our job not done yet, says Enugu Governor
The clamour for Governor Peter Mbah to have a second term in office come 2027 has enveloped the entire grassroots of Enugu State with the 583 autonomous communities endorsing the Governor through their Presidents-General.
The Enugu State Council of Presidents-General gave their collective endorsement of Mbah on behalf of their respective autonomous communities Thursday May 14, 2026 during a courtesy visit to the Governor at government house.
The PGs hinged their decision to back Mbah’s continuity in office on his sterling leadership and uncommon transformations across all sectors of the state economy since he assumed office in 2023.
The Council of PGs of Enugu autonomous communities also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election, commending him for making more resources available to the states to execute projects that touch the lives of the people.
In addition, the PGs lauded Mr. President for the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, as well as execution of strategic projects that would transform the economy of the state and the South East zone in general.
Chairman of the Council of PGs, Chief Arinze Ogbodo, extolled Governor Mbah for running an inclusive administration sensitive to the needs of the grassroots, citing the adoption of the 260 political wards as the basis for the distribution of democracy dividends.
He listed with delight Mbah’s transformative projects, including construction of 267 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, 260 Farm Estates, improved security through investment in high-tech infrastructure.
Ogbodo further praised the Enugu Governorfor revival of moribund assets, and for initiating many ongoing and completed road projects thereby opening up rural communities.
“Consequently,” he declared, “the Enugu State Council of Presidents-General of Town Unions, on behalf of the 583 autonomous communities in Enugu State, unanimously adopts you for a second term in office as the Governor of Enugu State in recognition of your outstanding performance, transformational leadership, and unwavering commitment to the development of Enugu State”.
“In the same vein, we hereby equally adopt President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office,” the Chairman of the Council of PGs added.
He assured both the governor and Mr. President that “we shall mobilise grassroots support for their re-election “through our structured organs from the state level to senatorial zones, Local Government Areas, and communities”.
Governor Mbah, in his response thanked the community leaders for acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of his government to take Enugu’s development to a higher level.
He promised to do even more, pointing out that more work remained to be done to position Enugu as an economic giant and number one state in Nigeria.
Mbah stated that every project or programme of his government was well thought out and not a knee-jerk decision or nine days wonder.
He noted that the transformations being witnessed in education, health, agriculture, transport, tourism, and security sectors, as well as infrastructure, were all interconnected towards growing the state from a $4.4bn to a $30bn economy by 2031.
The Governor expressed his appreciation of the endorsement by the grassroots leaders, saying that “what this endorsement has done is that you have imposed further obligations on us. You told us to go and finish this job”.
Nonetheless, he assured the PGs that he has more in store for Enugu people as “what we have done (so far) is simply to build the fundamentals, to lay the foundations, and to get ready”.
“But even with just building these fundamentals and the foundations, you can see that the profile of Enugu is rising daily. Enugu has become a model of good governance. That is essentially what you have come here this afternoon to endorse,” Mbah stated.
He acknowledged the sincerity of the Council of Enugu PGs in endorsing him for second term, noting that what they have done “is beyond politics”.
“What you are saying to us this afternoon is that you cannot politicise the future of our children,” Mbah said.
