Abia PDP Leadership Under Fire for Suspending Party’s BoT Chairman, Senator Wabara

A pro-group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lambasted the Abia State leadership of the party over the suspension of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, eescribing it as “a charade”.

The group known as the PDP Frontier for Change and Progress vehemently condemned “the purported suspension” of Wabara handed down by the State Executive Committee of Abia PDP on Tuesday February 11, 2025.

Addressing a press conference in Umuahia, the National Coordinator of PDP Frontier for Change and Progress, Hon Ibegbu Emeka Yellow, categorically stated that the Abia PDP SEC lacked the power to suspend the party’s BoT Chairman.

“It is only the National Working Committee of PDP that has power to suspend the BoT Chairman,” he said, adding that the saie session was an exercise in futility.

“Senator Wabara has not been suspended and will not be suspended,” Yellow declared.

Elder Abraham Amah: Under fire for Abia PDP SEC’s suspension of party’s BoT Chairman.

The leadership of Abia PDP had accused the former Senate President of anti-party activities for lauding Governor Alex Otti and endorsing him for a second term of office barely five months after the inception of his administration.

But Yellow argued that there was “nothing unusual” in what Senator Wabara, as an Abian, had said concerning Governor Otti, because after elections are concluded governance takes the centre stage.

He wondered why the Abia PDP leadership, which he questioned its legitimacy, should allow those ruining the party to go scot-free while treating genuine members like Senator Wabara with contempt.

“PDP is not suspending those hobnobbing with APC and getting appointments. Instead they have turned against Wabara, the “one man who has vowed that PDP will not die”.

Yellow, who described his group as “a child of necessity” said that it came about to address the decay in the main opposition party which has been bedevilled by moles undermining the former ruling party.

He said that he was not surprised that the Chairman of Abia PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, whom he questioned his legitimacy, had acted in “a most disgraceful manner with the purported suspension”.

According to him, the state party chairman procured the affirmative vote to suspend Wabara through the “jankara method of voice vote” usually employed to achieve a sinister or mischievous agenda.

Senator Wabara: Defended by PDP Frontier for Change and Progress.

The National Coordinator of the PDP Frontier for Change and Progress questioned the rationale for invoking sanctions on Wabara 16 months after he had made an honest statement.

He recalled that Abia PDP had ignored truthful advice from the BoT Chairman and paid dearly for it at the end of the day.

“Abia PDP ignored Senator Wabara in 2023 when he advised that the governorship ticket of the then ruling party should go to Abia North. They sabotaged it and they have seen where it landed the party,” he said.

Yellow said that Senator Wabara should be accorded utmost respect and honour given his towering status in Nigeria having been the nation’s number three citizen.
