Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was in defiant mood Monday February 10, 2025 as he voiced his frustration with the Nigeria legal system that has denied him justice.
Standing before a group of journalists inside the courtroom of a Federal High Court Abuja where he is being tried, Kanu decried what he described as a disturbing lack of legal knowledge that continues to cripple Nigeria’s justice system.
Speaking with self-assured conviction with voice reverberating inside court, he pointed to Nigeria’s own legal provisions, emphasizing that the Chief Justice of Nigeria has no authority to dictate judicial decisions to Justice Binta Nyako.
Kanu did not mince words regarding the cause he is fighting for which has brought him into conflict Nigerian authorities.
He said: “It is my right to agitate for Biafra. There is nothing anyone can do about it. I have committed no crime by seeking self-determination”.
Kanu’s voice of defiance brought a defeaning silence in the courtroom, his words carrying the weight of a long-standing struggle that has cost lives, divided opinions, and tested the limits of Nigeria’s legal system.
His courtroom declaration was more than just a legal argument; it was a cry against oppression, a challenge to the system, and an assertion of what he believes to be his undeniable rights.
The Biafra self-determination activist remained unshaken as he poured out his feelings on what has become not just a legal battle but a fight for identity, justice, and history itself.
Though it remains to be seen if his weighty words in the Court of Justice Binta Nyako would change the tides of his fate, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has continued to demonstrate that he would not be silenced.
His insistence that Justice Nyako’s court has no jurisdiction to try him has continued to be ignored by Nigeria’s judicial authorities.
