Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti has lauded the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for transforming millions of lives through her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative(RHI).
Mrs. Otti gave the commendation Tuesday, December 3 in Umuahia during the launch of the RHI distribution of free exercise books to Abia pupils and students to aid their academic pursuits at the Basic school level.
“As the mother of our dear nation, she is passionate about the empowerment of women, girls, and children, including pupils and students of our prestigious institutions of learning,” she said.
Mrs Otti announced that over 110,000 RHI free exercise books have been made available to pupils and students in partnership with her office, the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and the Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
She noted that the distribution of the free exercise books was in “recognition of the “critical role education plays in human capital development”.
The Abia first lady stated that the books would “enhance learning outcomes and support the academic journey of our pupils and students, especially at the Basic level”.
“Education is crucial and remains the backbone of a nation’s development, prosperity, and growth.
“Investing in education is essential for building a prosperous, equitable, and harmonious society. It fosters innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, driving economic progress,” Mrs Otti said.
She vowed that “we will keep championing strategic initiatives that enhance the development of our children”, adding that the book distribution event “underscores our commitment to providing quality basic education to all our children”.
According to her, every pupil would get at least six exercise books that would “play vital role in (their) academic journey by providing spaces for the pupils “to take notes, record assignments, and track progress”.
But she was quick to point out that “this provision serves as a palliative support, and does not replace the responsibility of parents and guardians to provide learning materials for their wards”.
“Research shows that writing down notes enhances the processing and retention of information. I cannot overemphasize the importance of these exercise books. We will ensure it gets to every child,” she said.
Mrs. Otti encouraged students and pupils “to embrace every opportunity with a deep sense of responsibility”, assuring them that “we are deeply committed to securing a future where you all can thrive”
“Remember, every great achievement starts with little steps. Keep moving forward, and you will reach your goals. I believe in you because you have the potential to achieve amazing things”.
While stating that her office has partnered with various stakeholders “to ensure that quality education is accessible to every child in the state”, Mrs. Otti thanked her Governor husband for prioritising education, healthcare, sustainable environment, labour, and productivity.
She urged the students and pupils to “always remember that you are our hope. All the reforms we are making are for your future”.
Turning to the beaming pupils and students, the Abia first lady asked them to “promise me and everyone here today that you will always strive for academic excellence”.
She reminded the youngsters that “you are not just students and pupils (but) the future leaders and changemakers of our great nation”.
“Keep pushing through academic challenges. Your hard work and dedication will pay off soon,” she said.
