The President-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has said that the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation has no intention to interfere in the investigation of the suspended Central Bank Governor, Goodwin Emefiele.
He made the clarification in a statement he personally signed following a misconception created by one Chima Uzor who described himself as the director of national interest matters in Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The said Uzor not only condemned Emefiele’s suspension but described it as “ethnic cleansing” which he passed off as the position of Ohanaeze.
But Iwuanyanwu categorucally stated that the statement credited to Ohanaeze “is false in its entirety”, adding that the person behind the misleading statement and the office he claimed to represent “is a matter of criminal impersonation”.
He said: “Mazi Chima Uzor is an impersonator and unknown to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. There is no office for national interest matters in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
“Ohanaeze has no intention whatsoever to interfere with investigations of the DSS or other security agencies of the country. Ohanaeze also has no intention whatsoever to interfere with disciplinary actions of government (taken against) government officials”.
However, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo PG stated that individuals affected by any action taken against them by government have the right to seek redress in court.
He explained that Ohanasze will take every step to assist an individual in a situation where the court of law proved the aggrieved person innocent and Ohanaeze is convinced as such.
“On the other hand, if the individual is guilty, Ohanaeze will be unable to assist,” Iwuanyanwu emphasised.
While issuing a disclaimer on Mazi Chima Uzor, the Ohanaeze PG urged security agencies “to treat this matter(activities of the impostor) as a very serious crime case”.
He again alerted the public on the existence of “many fraudsters tarnishing the good name and reputation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by making false publications in the name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for selfish interests”.
Iwuanyanwu assured that the impersonators of Ohanaeze Ndigbo would soon be flushed out with the help of security agencies.
