The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has approved the appointment of 680 persons to serve in various capacities within the constituted administrative teams of the 68 Development Centres of the State.

The Secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Prof Chidiebere Onyia made this known in a statement, saying that the  appointments were made “to fill existing vacancies in the various Development Centres of the State”.

Each of the 68 Development Centres has 10-member administrative body comprising Administrator, Secretary and eight other members making a grand total of 680 appointees.

However, there’s a noticeable under- representation of women in the appointments with only seven female Administrators or 10.3 percent of the total while eight women were named Secretaries, representing 11.8 percent of the 68 DC Secretaries.

According to the SSG, the appointments “are part of the (Mbah) administration’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots participation in governance and decision-making” thereby
promoting inclusivity and broad-based representation.

He said that it would “ensure that communities have effective channels for contributing to government programmes and policies, and further deepen the reach of government at the local level”.

“The appointments are also intended to enhance effective coordination of grassroots development initiatives, facilitate greater community engagement and responsiveness, and ensure that the administration’s development agenda is implemented with meaningful participation from the people at the community level,” Onyia further stated.

He noted that all the appointees “are expected to bring to bear their experience, commitment and understanding of their respective communities in the discharge of their responsibilities”.

The SSG said that the people steering the affairs of the Development Centres would be working collaboratively with the relevant government institutions and stakeholders to advance the development objectives of the State.

He stated that Governor Mbah while congratulating the appointees also charged them “to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving with diligence, integrity, accountability and a strong sense of responsibility to the people of Enugu State”.

The constitution of the management team for the Development Centres came on the heels of the inauguration of the 17 Local Government Chairmen who were elected in the LG poll held on September 26, 2026.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State won all the elective positions in the LG polls while the DC appointees were drawn from the party membership, thereby giving the party a firm control of the grassroots.
