…Mazi Chris Nwaogu Appointed as Head of 4th DOS
Less than a week after the third administrative structure of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) was dissolved, the former head of the Directorate of State(DOS), Chika Edoziem has been expelled from the organisation.
Edoziem, who had futilely attempted to resist the dissolution of the third DOS, was expelled along with nine other top officials of IPOB, including Tony Nzurumike, Austin Agbanyim, Chukwudi Oforma, and Isaiah Ubah. Other ex-members of the third DOS booted out are Colins Chinedu, Chinasa Nworu, Fidelis Ejiogu, Chidinma Nworu a.k.a Juliet Edward Filatro, and Keke Uda.
The expulsion of the top members of IPOB’s administrative hierachy was announced in a statement dated June 21, 2026 and personally signed by the incacerated leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He stated that the “indefinite expulsion” of the affected IPOB members” was with immediate effect, adding that “they no longer represent, speak for, or act in any capacity on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra”.
Kanu, who is the Supreme Leader of IPOB, said that the expulsions “are disciplinary actions arising from the conduct of the affected individuals before and after” the dissolution of the third DOS.
He said that the sacked officials repeatedly violated the IPOB Code of Conduct, pointing out that the organisation “is governed by its Code of Conduct, which remains the supreme governing instrument of the movement”.
“Every officer, coordinator, representative, and member is bound by its provisions without exception. The authority to appoint, discipline, suspend, remove, dissolve, or expel any officer or administration of IPOB is vested in the office of the Supreme Leader,” he stated.
The IPOB leader specified the misconducts of the expelled members to include
“wilful abandonment of the Supreme Leader and other Biafrans in detention for years without providing adequate legal, welfare, or medical support.
They were also alleged to have countermanded explicit court directive for AVID, Rising Sun, and Ambassadors for Self-Determination to raise funds for Kanu’s urgent medical treatment when he was critically ill in DSS custody.
Edoziem and his third DOS officials were accused by Kanu to have been engaged in “persistent attacks on my lawyers and active efforts to undermine my case in court with the help of some political actors in the South East”.
Among other alleged misconducts, the expelled IPOB officials were said to have mounted “sustained campaign of calumny to demarket (Kanu) and seize control of the movement for political interests not aligned with Biafra”.
Kanu also frowned at the “spurious allegations against my brothers in order to damage my family name;” as well as the “persistent false claim that my brothers returned me to court after the Court of Appeal discharge of 13 October 2022”.
According to him, it was “in fact my then legal team (including Chief Mike Ozekhome and Ifeanyi Ejiofor) that went back to court instead of filing a preliminary objection to the Federal Government’s application for stay”.
It also emerged that reports suggesting that President had given Kanu a major condition for his release, namely renouncing Biafra restoration, was totally false.
The fabrication was counted by Kanu among the sins of Edoziem and his cohorts, saying that the “open claim that I will not be released by President Tinubu unless I abandon Biafra, became the basis for their widespread disobedience and sabotage”.
Another fabrication attributed to the expelled officials was the circulation of the concocted story that two African countries advised them to abandon Kanu in detention.
The IPOB leader also accused the fallen officials of engaging in “sustained campaign of calumny to demarket me and seize control of the movement for political interests not aligned with Biafra”.
He cited “persistent attacks on anybody who has ever called for my release, including revered figures such as His Majesty Eze Agubuzu”, adding that “it took special intervention for Mike Arnold not to receive the same treatment”.
Kanu lamented that without his consent Edoziem carried out “unauthorized removal of officers I appointed and replacement with persons chosen for personal loyalty”. The ex-DOS members were also said to have carried out the “alteration of the IPOB oath of office to demand loyalty to themselves instead of the cause and the Supreme Leader”.
Meanwhile, Kanu has already constituted the fourth DOS of IPOB and named Mazi Christopher Nwaogu as Head of the new administrative structure, and he has accepted the “sacred mandate” to pilot the affairs of IPOB.
Nwaogu said that the DOS under him “shall devote significant time, energy, and resources to ensuring that our people and the wider world understand who we are, what we stand for, and why IPOB remains committed to peaceful self-determination, justice, and the protection of our ancestral homeland”.
“As we embark upon this new chapter, we must also renew our commitment to discipline, unity, and intellectual engagement,” he added.
According to him, “the time for internal distractions, needless controversies, and destructive divisions is over. The future we seek cannot be built through bitterness or personal attacks”.
“We shall engage every argument with reason, every challenge with facts, and every adversary with superior ideas and principled conviction,” Nwaogu stated.
The expulsions in IPOB have generated ripples in the Biafra restoration movement but the Deputy Head of DOS, Mazi Solomon Egbo, explained that though it was “painful”, it was also necessary to boot out the affected persons in the overall interest of IPOB.
