The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed appreciation and “warm commendation” to Mike Arnold and the “courageous members” of the United States Congress for their efforts in creating global awareness of ongoing bloodshed in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, made available to the media on Thursday March 26, 2026, IPOB said that the “timely and fearless intervention” of Arnold and the Congressmen has “exposed the unfolding catastrophe in Nigeria”.

According to the group, the “bold stand of the (conscientious Americans) has pierced the veil of international silence and complicity that has long shielded the systematic slaughter of Judeo-Christian communities across Nigeria”.

The advocacy and pressure mounted by some US lawmakers had comepelled the Congress to send a fact-finding team to investigate the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria and also got the Donald Trump administration to take the Nigerian government to task over the issue.

On his part, Arnold, a social justice advocate, wrote a powerful essay clearly exposing the double standard of the British Government and its aversion to the issue of Biafra self determination.

“History will record that at a critical moment, when many chose diplomatic convenience over moral clarity, you chose to speak truth to power — warning Britain and the entire world of the impending doom that awaits Nigeria if the ongoing genocide against indigenous Christians is allowed to continue unchecked,” IPOB said.

“To Mike Arnold and the distinguished US Congressmen, the global IPOB family says: Thank you. Thank you for standing tall as true sons of America and defenders of justice. Your intervention has vindicated the Biafran struggle and amplified our cry for freedom before the conscience of the world”.

The Biafra self determination organisation stated that it has become evidently clear that  “every prophecy uttered by our leader, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is coming to pass with clinical precision”.

“Those who doubted him in the past must now confront the bitter reality before their eyes. The handwriting is no longer on the wall — it is written in the blood of thousands of defenseless men, women and children massacred across the Middle Belt, Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and increasingly in Yorubaland.

“Middle Belt has fallen. Yorubaland is being systematically overrun by killer herdsmen,” IPOB said.

According to IPOB, “only Biafraland, under the visionary leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the gallant efforts of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), remains a fortress — impervious to the Fulani rampage that has turned vast swathes of Nigeria into killing fields”.

It reiterated its position that “the only path to peace (in Nigeria) is “a UN-supervised referendum”.

The statement emphasised that “the singular demand of IPOB remains a peaceful, internationally supervised referendum for the people of Biafra to decide their political destiny”.

“This is not negotiable. It is the only civilized, lawful, and sustainable solution capable of halting the cycle of bloodshed and preventing Nigeria’s total collapse,” IPOB stated.

It pointed out that “any attempt to suppress its legitimate demand through military force, propaganda, or intimidation will only accelerate the very disintegration that sensible voices now fear.

“The resoluteness of our leader and the unity of purpose across the global IPOB family set us apart as the most disciplined and focused liberation movement of our time”.

IPOB also paid tribute to all those that have kept the quest for Biafran freedom alive as a daily global conversation, saying that future generations and indeed both the living and the yet unborn owe them an eternal debt of gratitude.

It noted that Biafra activists have through their “sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering commitment in the face of unrelenting persecution, brought us to this historic threshold”.

The self determination group, therefore, called on “all Biafrans and lovers of justice worldwide to intensify our diplomatic offensive across every continent”.

“Let every platform, every institution, and every conscience hear this message: Nigeria, as currently constituted, is a failed experiment hurtling towards disaster.

“Only self-determination for Biafra can avert the greater catastrophe that now stares the world in the face,” IPOB said.

It warned that “the time for half-measures is over (because) the blind may choose to look away, but the clear-eyed among the international community can no longer pretend not to see the gathering storm”.
