As Mazi Nnamdi Kanu continues to languish in prison, Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo Niine (the Titled Spiritual Mothers of Igboland) have expressed strong solidarity with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), calling for his freedom.

The Spiritual Mothers made the call Wednesday February 11, 2026 during a “sacred and purposeful visit” to Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre where he is serving a controversial life imprisonment.

The delegation led by Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, the exalted Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine(Mother of All Igbo Masquerades), stressed the need for concerted efforts and prayers to make Kanu’s release become a reality.

Mrs. Ibeneme, who is a former Commissioner for Works and Housing in Anambra State, is a foremost custodian of Igbo traditions and Lolo Eze Nwanyi Nnewi, announced the visit to Kanu in a statement she issued “with deep reverence and cultural pride”.

She explained that the visit to Africa’s current foremost freedom fighter was “carried out on behalf of Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo nile, (who) embody the collective maternal, spiritual, and ancestral guardianship of our people across Ala-Igbo”.

In her capacity as a revered spiritual mother and advocate for Igbo heritage, Chief Mrs. Ibeneme extended unwavering solidarity, abiding maternal affection, and powerful prayers to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whom they  regard as their cherished son.

“We urge all sons and daughters of Ala-Igbo, along with people of conscience everywhere, to unite in fervent prayers for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate freedom,” she said.

The revered spiritual mother expressed faith in the continued efficacy of our mothers’ intercessions, and the eventual restoration of justice, equity, and harmony in our land.

She presented several gift items to Kanu, invoked ancestral blessings, and reaffirmed “the profound motherly support of all Igbo mothers—both the living and those who have joined the ancestors (ndi nwụrụ anwụ).

While interacting with the Biafra activist, the delegation made known the mothers’ plans to undertake a broader mission of engaging prominent paramount rulers, traditional leaders, and spiritual authorities throughout Nigeria.

This initiative seeks to foster dialogue, harness divine and earthly influences in advocating for Kanu’s unconditional release.

The Spiritual Mother prayed for Chukwu Okike Abiama(the Almighty God) “to guide, protect, and uplift our son, our revered mothers, and the entire Igbo nation”.
