Kanu: Window still exists to negotiate his release, says Otti.
As Christians the world over celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has sent out a Christmas message from his confinement.
The message was posted on the Facebook wall of his junior brother @Prince Kanu, in the early hours of Christmas Day.
In the message Nnamdi Kanu wished “men and women of good conscience a Merry Christmas from the Caliphate’s seat in Sokoto”.
“I want to thank everyone for their prayers,” he added.
Kanu, who has been confined to the Sokoto Correctional Centre following the November 20, 2025 controversial judgment of Justice James Omotosho, has become a global symbol of prisoner of conscience.
His conviction and life sentence has come under global scrutiny of legal minds due to the perceived flawed process leading up to arrest, trial and sentencing.
The IPOB leader’s trial for alleged treason is generally regarded as political trial given that similar agitations in other parts of Nigeria were overlooked by FG and the leaders were never arrested and tried for treason.
Kanu’s transfer from Abuja to Sokoto prison to serve his life sentence has equally drawn criticisms from legal analysts and social activities. They accused the Justice Omotosho of overreaching the jurisdiction of the court by specifying where Kanu should be kept to serve his prison term.
Despite the ordeal he has been passing through in the hands of Nigeria’s federal authorities, the Biafra activist has refused to be broken and has remained faithful in his agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra.
Meanwhile, a plethora of calls and appeals have continued to flood the Presidency as groups and individuals mount pressure on President Bola Tinubu to find political solution to Kanu’s matter by granting him unconditional pardon.
