The Igbo community in Sokoto State have demonstrated a profound compassion and communal solidarity by visiting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional facility and doing a remarkable act of charity for all the inmates.
The Igbo Community had gone to celebrate Christmas with their kinsman, Kanu, who is presently confined at the Sokoto Prison, but they were inspired by his inclusive disposition and decided to extend the festive meal to all the inmates.
According to a statement issued by the leadership of the Igbo Community in Sokoto, made available to the media, Kanu made them understand his preference not to dine alone, especially during this festive season of Christmas, hence the all inclusive
Therefore, rather than limiting their generosity to a single individual, they elected to provide festive meals for the entire inmate population of the facility.
This benevolent act ensured that all the inmates estimated at 1,300 shared in the spirit of the season.
According to the leadership of the Igbo Community in Sokoto, their charitable gesture was rooted in the enduring Igbo philosophy of Onye Aghana Nwanne Ya (be your brother’s keeper), and the universal values of charity and fellowship.
It was performed as a humanitarian service to all, irrespective of origin or circumstance.
