Mobilisations for the forthcoming peaceful protest to demand justice and freedom for Nnamdi Kanu have continued to gain momentum both within and outside Nigeria.
A diaspora organisation, Ndi Igbo World Union has commenced mobilisation of Igbos across the world, while the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) has told students they should get ready for participation in the protest.
In a statement issued from its base in Massachusetts, United States of America, signed by its Chairman, Hon Benjamin I. Nwankwo, and Secretary, Chief Charles C. Edemuzor, the Ndigbo World Union backed the planned protest.
The group sent “a clarion call to all Igbos worldwide to stand up for justice and join the #FreeMaziNnamdiKanu Now peaceful march to Aso Rock on October 20, 2025”.
“Let every Igbo union, student body, market association, church, town union, and diaspora chapter mobilise peacefully and massively.
“Let our presence be a testimony that we have not abandoned our own,” the statement read.
The group pointed out that the forthcoming historical protest “is not a protest of violence, but a moral pilgrimage of conscience – a call for Nigeria to return to justice, humanity, and the rule of law”, adding that “it is a moral duty”.
The diaspora group stated that Kanu’s “continued incarceration is a stain on the conscience of any nation that claims to practice democracy and justice”.
It expressed gratitide that Kanu’s travails have continued to attract solidarity scross borders, and commended “the courage of Omoyele Sowore, Hon. Obi Aguocha, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and every leader of conscience who has joined hands to demand Kanu’s freedom”.
“We equally urge members of the Abia State House of Assembly, who first ignited this noble idea, to key in fully, coordinate with the organisers, and demonstrate unity in purpose and spirit,” the group said.

“Let this moment unite us as never before. Let us march for justice, not vengeance; freedom, not anarchy; unity, not fear. History has placed this responsibility on our generation. Let us not fail”.
The Ndi Igbo World Union warned that those participating in the protest should not allow themselves to be provoked under any circumstances to resort to violent conducts.
“We must uphold peaceful comportment and discipline throughout this campaign. We reject every form of violence, hate, or provocation. The world is watching – and our strength lies in our restraint and moral authority.

“Let our chants be songs of peace; let our banners proclaim justice; let our feet march with dignity,” NIWU said.
However, the group called on the United Nations, the African Union, the ECOWAS Court, and the international community to take note: the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a human rights crisis, and the call for his release is a nonviolent, lawful, and global demand for justice”.
Meanwhile, the leadership of NANS has called on all Nigerian students to participate in the free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu nationwide protest.
NANS President, Comrade Atiku Isah, in a statement dated October 13, 2025, said that the executive of the students body, at its recent meeting, resolved that students across the six geopolitical zones should participate in the protest.
As part of the mobilisation efforts, Isah said that 10 buses would be assigned to each zone for conveying students to Abuja, adding that “the mobilisation is part of the collective demand for justice, civil rights, and democratic accountability”.
“As students, we affirm that freedom is achieved through struggle, and we remain committed to peaceful advocacy for what is right,” the NANS President stated.
